Renault – we are proud to be first OEM with Leonard retreads
As reported on Monday, the Renault Group will distribute Leonard retreaded car tyres in France via the 4,900 points of distribution in its brand network. We reached out to Groupe Renault to find out more, and Christopher Le Coq, the company’s strategic partnerships & business development manager, told us a little about the line-up Renault will offer.
“We are launching a range of 80 dimensions,” shares Le Coq, adding that Renault will offer Leonard tyres in summer and all-season patterns. These products will “cover 70 per cent of our car French car parc.”
Produced by Black Star at the site of Bridgestone’s former plant in Béthune, France, Leonard tyres offer an alternative to new passenger and light commercial vehicle tyres that saves 80 per cent of materials and results in up to 60 per cent less CO² during production than a new tyre. Black Star aims to make 1 million Leonard tyres in Béthune annually.
“We are really proud to be the first OEM to offer this new product,” states Le Coq. “Lower environmental impact, high quality, similar performance to new tyres and more affordable than premium tyres. That’s a lot of advantages for our customers, and as Renault is a pioneer in circular economy, it was quite normal to be part of this new project from the beginning.”
