Nexen Tire reports that it is fortifying its European organizational structure by assigning new members in key positions. The moves includes “restructuring current functional department underneath” and the expansion of its presence in Germany through appointing a new managing director. At the same time, UK managing director responsibilities have been re-assigned.
Apollo Tyres will partially rebuild its primary tyre warehouse in Enschede, the Netherlands to “improve operational efficiency and reduce its environmental impact”. Scheduled to reopen in February 2025, investment in the 25,000 m2 warehouse is said to reflect Apollo Tyres’ “long-term commitment to production in the Netherlands”.

Recently, Jiangsu Xingda Steel Tyre Cord and Hixih Rubber entered an investment agreement. It is reported that the two parties are preparing to establish a joint venture to build a factory with an annual output of 50,000 tons of steel tyre cord. According to the agreement between the two parties, Xingda will be responsible for all operations and management of the joint venture company. The board of directors of the joint venture company consists of three directors, with the number of directors appointed by Xingda and Hixih being two and one.
Recently, Sentury announced that it had re-appointed Xu Huashan as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Information shows that in January 2018, Xu Huashan succeeded Zhang Lei and became the tyre manufacturer’s CFO. There were changes to her term in 2022.

Ahead of the expiry of anti-dumping tariffs on China-produced truck tyres imported into the European Union, on 20 October the European Commission reported receiving a request to review these. The European industry observers our sister title Neue Refeinzeitung (NRZ) spoke to expect a preliminary decision at the beginning of the review. Meanwhile, Chinese market sources told Tyrepress China that the tyre makers at the centre of the case have generally responded “calmly”, having become accustomed to “trade barriers” from Europe. Whatever the current market reaction is, the investigation will be concluded “within 12 months and in any event no later than 15 months from the date of…publication” (20 October 2023), according to the Commission.
It’s solar superlative time. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company reports having completed its largest solar panel installation to date. More than 29,700 solar panels now sit upon the rooftop of the tyre maker’s Pulandian factory site in Dalian, China, as well as on adjoining warehouse and office buildings – equipment that Goodyear says will reduce carbon emissions from purchased electricity by 17,000 tonnes annually over 25 years.
Ascenso Tyres research & development manager Abhishek Kumar has visited the brand’s UK tyre distributor BAB Distribution, wholesale division of the BA Bush & Son Ltd Group, and key Ascenso OE2 partners, looking ahead to the development of future tyre products. The visit enabled the Ascenso team to demonstrate its willingness to listen and adapt tyres based on feedback from dealers and end users. There was also plenty of positive feedback from customers on the existing tyre range’s performance BAB Distribution told Tyrepress.
UK car manufacturing rose by 39.8 per cent in September, with figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showing that 88,230 vehicles left British factory lines during the month – 25,105 more than during the same month of last year. SMMT considers September a “triple success for the sector,” with it being the strongest month of growth in 2023, the best September since 2020, and UK car making now reaching 659,901 units year to date – some 14.9 per cent above the same period in 2022.
Toyo Tires has extended its all-terrain tyre range for North America to include a tyre aimed at electric trucks and SUVs. The tyre maker designed and is manufacturing the Toyo Open Country A/T III EV in the USA and plans to offer “a wide range of unique sizes and high-load combinations for 18- to 24-inch wheel diameters.” No word from Toyo so far about a UK or European launch.
Falken Tyre Europe has launched the Wildpeak R/T01 rugged terrain tyre, a new flagship expanding its 4×4 tyre portfolio for demanding off-road applications. The new tyre means the Sumitomo Rubber Industries global flagship tyre brand now has a tyre for every off-road application. The company states that the R/T01 was “engineered with adventure in mind”; the tyre’s tread design and structure promote high traction performance in the most difficult conditions. Falken will distribute the Wildpeak R/T01 from the first quarter of 2024 with an initial range of nine sizes, ranging from 16 to 20 inches, with a speed rating of Q. The Wildpeak R/T01’s designation as a professional off-road tyre (POR) means it has no further EU tyre labelling information.
