Jiangsu General Thailand plant begins second phase
On 27 September, Jiangsu General’s Thailand factory held a groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase. The new production capacity project involves an investment of 1.884 billion yuan (approximately £210 million; €240 million) and plans to add 6 million semi-steel radial tyres and 500,000 all-steel radial tyres yearly.
Jiangsu General stated that the second phase could create approximately 1,500 new jobs and “better meet the needs of international customers, inject new impetus into Jiangsu General’s globalisation strategy, and further boost local employment and economic development”.
Li Kai, deputy general manager of General Thailand, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. He said in his speech, “The official launch of the second phase is a new milestone in Jiangsu General’s overseas layout. The Thailand factory will give full play to its technological advantages and mature management and operation experience and is committed to creating better products for global consumers and injecting new impetus into Thailand’s economic development.”
According to Li Kai, “The first phase has reached full capacity. The Thailand factory has achieved double growth in sales and orders in the first half of this year, and product supply exceeds demand. Recently, the Thailand factory’s orders on hand have exceeded production capacity by more than 50 per cent. Therefore, the second phase of expansion is imperative”.
