Increased performance, sustainability – Metzeler previews Roadtec 02

Metzeler reports that the successor to its Roadtec 01 is now in the final stages of development and testing and will arrive from January 2024. This is the Metzeler Roadtec 02, and the manufacturer claims a further raising of the “bar of sportiness” with a ‘Super Sport Touring’ tyre that offers new levels of handling and grip on wet surfaces. Metzeler also ticks the sustainability box by utilising a “high percentage” of natural origin and recycled materials.

This latest generation product offers “significantly” improved dynamic performance compared to its predecessor, with handling and wet road behaviour particularly benefitting. In addition to boasting the “typical characteristics of a touring tyre” such as high mileage and excellent grip on wet surfaces, Roadtec 02 combines these with qualities more typical of super sports tyres, such as handling that “gives new levels of sportiness.”

The key target demographic is owners of large displacement roadgoing motorcycles such as naked, crossover, sport tourer and tourer machines. Metzeler considers Roadtec 02 a “perfect travel companion” for riders who favour long journeys. “Thanks to its easy handling, it will make riding the motorcycle easier and less tiring, also improving the ability to hold a line whilst leaning.” New compounds reduce tyre warm-up times for added safety in the first miles of riding, and Metzler also shares that it has improved performance in difficult conditions, such as cold, wet, and slippery asphalt.
