Groundbreaking for Giti Tire’s Hefei plant
Giti Tire held a groundbreaking ceremony on 20 September to officially inaugurate the start of work on its latest facility, an event the tyre maker says holds a “particular significance” as it also marks the group’s 30th anniversary of manufacturing in China. Executive chairman Enki Tan reinforced this during proceedings by stating that “the upcoming modernised Hefei plant not only celebrates our legacy but also sets the stage for Giti’s next chapter.”
The Hefei plant in Anhui has been designed according to Industry 4.0 principles and once completed will provide “strong evidence of Giti’s dedication to environmental efficiency.” Situated to cater to key OEM demands, the facility will boast an integrated supply chain capability that facilitates “seamless production.” Furthermore, its proximity to China’s Eastern seaboard ports promises logistical advantages.
Local authorities, which indicated in 2019 that they wished to relocate Giti Tire’s Hefei factory, reported the start of work at the Hefei site on 30 March. At the time, the secretary of the Hefei Municipal Party Committee said the project would be completed and put into operation within 12 months.
