General Tire continues expansion of Grabber AT3 all-terrain range
General’s latest 4×4 tyres also include the mud-terrain Grabber X3
While supplying a wide range of tyres across a variety of segments, Continental’s General Tire brand is renowned for its high-performance SUV and all-terrain tyres. The brand’s wide range of products to meet the most demanding requirements is under the Grabber brand name. The range is led by the General Tire Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyre and the Grabber X3 mud-terrain models. The full range of General Tire 4×4 tyres is available exclusively though Micheldever Tyre Services in the UK.
The Grabber AT3 is a versatile and robust tyre that has been developed for use on SUVs, pick-up trucks and off-road vehicles. It combines exceptional off-road capability and excellent grip on the road in all weather conditions. General Tire says safety is its paramount concern and with the latest tread compounds, the Grabber AT3 now offers enhanced performance on wet roads, alongside improved cut resistance for SUVs on tyres with a width over 225 millimetres. The new compounds mean the EU rating for wet grip has improved from E to C.
The all-terrain Grabber AT3 features many robust blocks that interlock with the ground, and allow the vehicle to move forward, steer precisely, and ensure short braking distances on and off road. The deep tread grooves provide additional grip when the vehicle is traveling over muddy roads or slippery grassland. Aggressive shoulder blocks prevent the side wall from being damaged. The Grabber AT3 offers high tread strength for driving on the road and carries out steering and brake commands precisely.
General Tire manufactures the pattern in an extremely wide product range, for rims between 15 and 22 inches in diameter, with approval for speeds of up to 150mph.
Recent new sizes added to the range include 235/55R17 103H XL, HL275/45R22 115H XL, 265/45R21 108H XL and 225/60R18 104H XL, with more sizes expected during 2024 as General continues to grow the range.
General Tire Grabber X3
The General Tire Grabber X3 is a mud-terrain tyre, with an 80/20 off/on-road weighting. To help meet a demanding set of specifications, General Tire’s development engineers created three pioneering technologies: “Extreme Mud (X Mud)” for maximum traction in deep mud, “Extreme Dirt (X Dirt)” for driving on dirt and gravel, and “Extreme Rock (X Rock)” for tackling rocky terrain. All three rely on a tread pattern that features deep grooves, channels for mud evacuation and staggered edges, which makes for high levels of grip on sand, mud and gravel.
The Grabber X3 has a three-ply structure (the 255/55R19 size is an exception with a 2 PR sidewall) that provides additional strength and puncture resistance. Compared to the tyre’s predecessor, its performance on sand and in loose gravel has been improved by five percent, while performance over rocky terrain by ten percent. For on-road use, General says the Grabber X3 is better than its predecessor in terms of wet performance and noise, while there is a ten percent improvement on snow-covered ground.
The Grabber X3 is available for rims between 15 to 20 inch in diameter. All sizes of this off-road specialist are approved for speeds of up to 99 mph in tread widths from 205-305. A limited range of the Grabber X3 feature the Smooth Red Letter (SRL) sidewall marking.
