Best UK technicians named at Delphi-hosted event
For a second year, Delphi has helped showcase the best of UK garage technical talent after hosting the keenly contested Top Technician final on Saturday 14 October. The event, created by Aftermarket magazine, took place at Delphi’s Titan 10 technical training centre in Warwick.
Top Technician aims to shine a light on exceptional skills and the five finalists had earlier won through an extended series of rounds that began with thousands of entries to the online test stage. Following semi-finals, which Delphi also hosted at the start of September, the five – who came from different sections of the aftermarket – completed a gruelling series of five practical fifty-minute tasks, in front of a panel of expert industry judges. The total prize fund this year was worth over £30,000.
A positive influence
“We were honoured to support Top Technician as it has a long history of benefiting independent garages,” says Luke Garratt, UK and Nordics technical services manager at Delphi Technologies. “As a major parts, diagnostics and training supplier to the independent sector supporting prestigious events like this can only help to positively influence technicians.
“It’s about not only recognising and rewarding this year’s best technicians – who are so often the ‘unsung heroes’ of the trade – but also inspiring many others to keep working to continually better their skills to win awards in the future.”
Commitment to developing skills
Delphi’s commitment to continual skills development includes diagnostics programmes, technical training in Warwick, online learning through the Delphi Academy. Tips, hints, articles and ‘How To’ videos are available from the new ‘Master of Motion’ hub as well.
The day was followed by an Awards Evening at the Double Tree by Hilton hotel in Coventry, where winners of both Top Technician and Top Garage were announced to a packed audience.
Top Technician and Top Garage 2023 took place in association with the Garage Equipment Association (GEA), the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) and the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
