BMW approves 7 tyre brands for latest 5 Series

Production of the G60/G61/G68 BMW 5 Series has commenced, and the first deliveries will begin any time now. UK-spec M Sport models of this eighth-generation BMW executive saloon come with 19-inch light alloy wheels as standard equipment, while M Sport Pro models receive 20-inch light alloy wheels. BMW UK says the enlarged diameter over its predecessor’s rims gives the vehicle an “even more sporty presence.” Options available for all versions include 20-inch and 21-inch light alloy wheels, and the BMW list of approved rims and tyres for the G60 also includes an 18-inch fitment.
In addition to the pressure display, a tyre-related gizmo built into the BMW 5 Series as standard is a digital tyre condition monitoring system. BMW explains that this utilises a diagnostic function using artificial intelligence in the BMW backend to detect tyre issues earlier. It reports a loss of pressure to the driver via the My BMW app and, depending on the market, also in the vehicle, together with a recommendation for taking action. The system can also forecast how much tyre life remains until the recommended minimum tread depth is reached.

Approved 21-inch tyres
Continental and Pirelli supply tyres for cars wearing the range-topping, optional 21-inch rim. In this configuration, the BMW 5 Series is delivered with the Continental EcoContact 6 Q or Pirelli P Zero in the front/rear combinations 245/35 R 21 96 Y XL & 275/30 R 21 98 Y XL or front HL 255/35 R 21 101 Y XL & rear HL 285/30 R 21 103 Y XL.
Approved 20-inch tyres
Vehicles equipped with 20-inch rims ride on Continental, Michelin or Pirelli tyres. The Continental offering in this diameter is EcoContact 6 Q, while Michelin supplies the e.Primacy and Pirelli the P Zero. All are the front dimension 245/40 R 20 99 Y XL and rear 275/35 R 20 102 Y XL. A winter tyre option is also available, with the Continental WinterContact TS 860 S or Pirelli P Zero Winter seeing service here in 245/40 R 20 99 V XL M+S for the front axle and 275/35 R 20 102 V XL M+S at the rear. BMW has also approved the Continental winter tyre in the front size 245/40 R 20 99 H XL M+S and rear 275/35 R 20 102 H XL M+S.
Approved 19-inch tyres
Lower-spec models arrive with 19-inch rims as standard, and the ranks of original equipment tyre suppliers for this diameter include Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Hankook, Michelin and Pirelli. For the all-round 245/45 R 19 102 Y XL fitment, Bridgestone Turanza 6, Continental EcoContact 6 Q, Hankook Ventus S1 evo3, Michelin e.Primacy or Pirelli P Zero tyres are standard. Buyers choosing factory-fitted all-season or winter tyres receive the Continental WinterContact TS 860 S, Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 or Pirelli P Zero Winter in 245/45 R 19 102 H XL M+S.
BMW also offers 19-inch rims as a mixed-fitment, again with seasonal options. Summer tyre sizes are 245/45 R 19 102 Y XL for the front axle and 275/40 R 19 105 Y XL at the rear. These are paired with the same five tyre models available for the all-round rim in this diameter. The same applies to mixed-fitment all-season and winter options, which come in the front wheel size 245/45 R 19 102 H XL M+S and rear 275/40 R 19 105 H XL M+S.
Approved 18-inch tyres
You’ll struggle to find them when navigating through BMW UK’s online configurator, but the vehicle manufacturer has also approved 18-inch fitments for the new G60/G61/G68 model. The summer fitment is an all-round size 225/55 R 18 102 Y XL, and here BMW offers the Bridgestone Turanza 6, Continental EcoContact 6 Q, Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 and Nexen N’Fera Sport. Three winter fitments are available in 225/55 R 18 102 H XL M+S, the Bridgestone Blizzak LM005, Continental WinterContact TS 860 S and Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2.
