VW ID. Buzz gives Giti Tire first European electric vehicle OE fitment
The award-winning VW ID. Buzz will roll off production lines on the GitiSynergyH2, as tyre manufacturer Giti Tire secures its first European electric vehicle (EV) original equipment homologation. The ID. Buzz will fit 235/60 R18 (front) and 255/55 R18 (rear) tyres, and is being produced in Hannover, Germany near Giti Tire’s European Research & Development Centre, where the tyre was designed. The ID. Buzz was recently named Overall Winner and Best Large Electric Car at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2023. The tyre has won previous original equipment contracts for Volkswagen Group combustion-engine powered vehicles.
The AAA-rated GitiSynergyH2 tyres fitted to the ID. Buzz utilise a new generation of tread compound which was developed to solve the technical development challenges of achieving significantly reduced rolling resistance without compromising on wear and the key safety elements of wet and dry braking and handling. All performance parameters are further fulfilled through an optimised profile and tyre contour.
Stefan Fischer, managing director – product technology at Giti Tire Europe, said: “Every OE fitment is a cause for celebration as every member of the team is involved in creating a truly special tyre, but to secure our first EV fitment on one of VW’s most iconic vehicles is a major milestone.
“Like every manufacturer we know that electric vehicles are the future and for years we have been developing tyres made for current and future models, the fitment underscores our work-to-date and we will continue to push the boundaries of tyre development going forwards.”
“We have a great relationship with the Volkswagen Group that has been forged by several OE fitments across some of their leading badges, because we are a trusted partner with proven tyre performance and production standards,” added Nicolas Kluson, key account manager Europe OE, Giti Tire.
“The GitiSynergyH2 fitment on the VW ID. Buzz gives us a further platform to build our OE operations with VW, and the news of this fitting will undoubtedly open doors with other leading vehicle manufacturers throughout Europe.”
