Straightset: EV tyres more expensive, so alignment more important
With over 1.2 million plugin vehicles across the UK, and with World EV day on 9 September, wheel alignment specialist Straightset has produced an infographic highlighting key facts about electric vehicles (EV) and ultimately arguing that wheel alignment is even more important on EVs.
Since EV batteries can increase vehicle weight by 20 to 30 per cent, tyre wear and energy efficiency are even more important than they already are on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The result is that consumers have to replace tyres every 30,000 to 40,000 miles.
When they do, those tyres are up to £77 more expensive than on ICE vehicles, according to Straightset.
In order to get the best value-for-money out of your investment in an electric vehicle – and to make sure that your electric driving is as environmentally friendly as possible – Straightset points to Tesla-originate advice, which suggests that tyres should be rotated every 10,000km.
