Pirelli tyres for VW ID. GTI Concept
Volkswagen says the ID. GTI Concept show car it is presenting for the first time at the IAA Mobility in Munich provides a “concrete insight” into how it will transport the GTI label into the “electric future”. Based on the ID. 2all1 presented in March – a future electric compact car expected to cost around 25,000 euros – VW considers the ID. GTI Concept to be “more than just a show car.”
Of particular interest to us are the car’s rims and tyres. The 20-inch GTI Concept alloy wheels were designed specifically for the concept vehicle. These have eight double spokes and a striking circle of eight openings; the inner surfaces of the wheel rims are black, while the edges of the eight openings have a high-gloss polished finish. The rims take inspiration from designs such as the Pirelli wheel rim from the Golf GTI I and the Denver wheel rim from the Golf GTI V. The tyres are Pirelli P Zero, which the GTI Concept wears in size 245/35 R20.
“With the ID. GTI Concept, we are taking the GTI DNA into the electric age,” says Thomas Schäfer, chief executive officer of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. “It remains sporty, iconic, technologically progressive and accessible, but now with a new interpretation for tomorrow’s world: electric, fully connected and extremely emotive. Here, driving pleasure and sustainability are a perfect match. This means GTI has a future – for our brand and for the fans. A Volkswagen sports car for the electric age that is suitable for everyday driving: 100 per cent electric – 100 per cent emotion.”
