All-season tyres up to 2/3 market share in Germany
All-season tyres are an increasingly popular choice for UK motorists but we’re still more reluctant to choose these than our neighbours in Germany. According to comparison platform Check24, in 2022 all-season tyres accounted for 68 per cent of the car tyre market in Hamburg and Berlin, regions with weather and climate not all that different from that in large parts of Britain. Bremen-based motorists plumped for all-season tyres in 67 per cent of cases and Schleswig-Holstein, in the country’s north, was close behind with a market share of 62 per cent. Market share in southern Germany, where winters are harsher, was much lower.
The rate at which all-season tyres gained market share compared to the previous year ranged from five to ten per cent. Tobias Lechner, who is in charge of Check24’s automotive parts business, notes that all-season tyres are particularly attractive for “residents of large cities who rarely travel long distances.”
