Yokohama responds to rising electric car sales with Advan Sport EV
Recent sales data from the SMMT reveals a new electric vehicle (EV) is registered every 60 seconds in the UK, indicating a strong shift towards greener transportation. This demand amplifies the need for optimised products with tyre performance to cater to the specific needs of these vehicles. Yokohama has designed the new Advan Sport EV to be tailored specifically for electric vehicles with several features to help EV drivers get the most out of their vehicles. Yokohama has indicated the tyre’s suitability for EV applications with an enhanced sidewall including the ‘E+’ mark. This emblem stands as an assurance of a product that combines technologies crafted specifically for EVs. The manufacturer says it signifies its dedication to promoting minimal electricity consumption and peak quietness, ensuring an unparalleled EV drive experience.
Central to the Advan Sport EV’s design is the innovative Silentfoam technology, a special polyurethane foam that substantially reduces tyre cavity resonance – the vibration-induced sound produced inside the tyre from uneven terrains. This technology ensures an audibly quieter drive, significantly diminishing cabin noise for a serene driving experience.
Additionally, the tyre incorporates a compound that diminishes rolling resistance, a pivotal attribute for enhancing an EV’s driving range, all the while ensuring unparalleled performance on wet roads, underscoring Yokohama’s commitment to safety. Notably, the Advan Sport EV’s tread pattern mirrors that used in Yokohama’s renowned Advan Sport V107, a product favoured both as an original equipment and replacement tyre for high-performance vehicles.
Characterised by their heavier build due to battery integration, EVs require tyres that can handle increased loads while not compromising on safety or performance. Further, with the removal of the traditional engine noise, the auditory focus shifts to the tyres, emphasising the need for quieter operations. Moreover, considering the persistent ‘range anxiety’ among potential EV buyers, it becomes paramount for tyres to offer reduced rolling resistance, thereby maximising the vehicle’s range on a single charge.
Yokohama also offers eco tyres via its established range of BluEarth tyres. Created from sustainably sourced materials, the range represents Yokohama’s commitment to the environment. Catering to a diverse range of vehicles, from compact cars to larger family vehicles, BluEarth tyres also offer grip and performance throughout the year, across various terrains.
