The top tyre e-tail websites 2023 (UK)

Following on from our analysis of the leading tyre retail web sites of bricks and mortar businesses, we now turn our attention to tyre e-tail operations. As it did in the retail side of things, Halfords once again tops this table, but with the integrated Halfords Autocentres name out of the equation, this time we were able to break down the component parts and quantify that traffic (see chart and separate breakdown column). That breakdown clearly shows two things: firstly, the scale of the different Halfords online tyre retail operations; and secondly, that Halfords acquisition of Axle Group Holdings/National Tyres brought significant online assets with it.

No-one will be surprised to see the business that really pioneering online tyre shopping in the UK as high as second place. Off the record, one source told us that Blackcircles.com’s monthly pageview figure is more in the direction of 1 million. Another said it was above Halfords. Either way, while the third-party data we used put clear water between first and second place, we consider it to be a close race at the top of the table.

While everyone has heard of the individual asdatyres.co.uk, etyres.co.uk and ractyres.co.uk sites, we chose to the acknowledge the reality that they are all run by Colewood Automotive. Adopting that approach reveals the scale and strength of the Colewood Automotive as well as the – perhaps surprising – revelation that asdatyres.co.uk represented by far the biggest contribution to the company’s pageview total in June.

The further we go down the table and the lower the traffic figures go, the more we have to say that the margin for error of the third-party quoted also increases. What that means is that, while we have oponeo.co.uk and mytyres.co.uk in fourth and fifth respectively in June 2023, they could fall the other way around in another month. Indeed, that is what one of our sources told us in the preparation of the 2023 table. Nevertheless, the data does give us an indication of the order of the lower part of the top 9 and it does identify the leading players in this sub-category.
