Hankook expands Chongqing factory’s TBR tyre capacity
Recently, Hankook stated that it would carry out technical transformation on the TBR production line of the Chongqing factory. Specifically, the tyre manufacturer plans to invest 47 million yuan (about £5.1 million; €5.9 million) to increase the daily production capacity of TBR from 2,560 to 2,960 (annual production capacity from 900,000 to 1.036 million) within 16 months. Hankook says the project will not add new land and will be built in its existing factory workshop.
Tyrepress China noted that the technological transformation of the TBR production line only increases the output of existing specifications. Hankook will complete the entire renovation process in two phases. After the conversion is completed, the production of TBR tyres of various specifications in Hankook’s Chongqing plant is as follows: 245/70R19.5 (297,500 pieces), 295/80R22.5 (295,000 pieces), 315/80R22.5 (196,000 pieces), 11R22.5 (172,000), 12R22.5 (37,500), 13R22.5 (38,000).
The Chongqing plant is Hankook’s third tyre manufacturing base in China, with 1,400 employees. As of August 2023, the factory’s production capacity is 900,000 TBR, 5,445,600 PCR, and 554,400 self-repairing PCR.
