Goodyear lights up ahead of anniversary
Darkness descended upon The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s former headquarters almost a decade ago. At any rate the illuminated sign atop the building ceased functioning, and this is something that Goodyear and a partner have rectified in the runup to the tyre maker’s 125 anniversary.
Together with The Well CDC, a non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the local area, Goodyear has revitalised the sign that long shone over what is now Goodyear Hall. The partners unveiled the rejuvenated sign at a celebration held on 10 August.
“This project shines a light on Goodyear’s continued commitment to invest in Akron and in the communities where we live and work,” says Laura Duda, Goodyear’s senior vice president and chief communications officer. “We are thankful to work together with great community partners like The Well CDC to support the neighbourhood that Goodyear has called home for the past 125 years.”
“The iconic Goodyear sign is synonymous with the City of Akron,” comments Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. “To see it lit up again in celebration of the company’s long-standing commitment to this city is a special moment for all who call Akron home. I look forward to many more years of Goodyear’s partnership and impact in Akron.”
Goodyear will celebrate its 125th anniversary on 29 August 2023.
