Ronal Group partners Lamborghini to develop SC63 racing wheel
The Ronal Group is partnering with Lamborghini to develop the wheel for its SC63 Le Mans Daytona hybrid (LMDh) race car. The car will participate in the WEC FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA (International Motor Sport Association) series from 2024. The Swiss wheel maker has vast experience in supplying motorsport-grade wheels, such as the 89 FIA World Champion titles won on its products in Formula 1. It also supplies the World Rally Championship, World Rallycross Championship, Super Touring and GT Racing.
Lamborghini Squadra Corse has created with the SC63 an LMDh vehicle with 680 HP that features a hybrid power unit consisting of a V8 twin-turbo combustion engine and a single-source Energy Recovery System kit. The LMDh project is the perfect race car extension of the Lamborghini strategy which is bringing the company into a sustainable future of hybridization. The prototype is set to make its competitive debut in 2024.
The Ronal Group’s technical partnership with Lamborghini Squadra Corse sees it developing and manufacturing monoblock wheels for the Lamborghini SC63. For the design of such a wheel, the most important aspects are structure, function, weight, aerodynamics, bending/stiffness and of course safety. The Ronal Group will take on development, turning, milling and coating processes. While the design, machining, CMM measurement and final inspection are performed at the App-Tech plant in Italy, the painting, Pad Printing and all tests take place at the Ronal plant in Landau, Germany.
“We have chosen the Ronal Group as our partner because they have state-of-the-art machines, the know-how to use different specific technologies and, because we have been working closely together for many years, a very good understanding of us as a customer,” explains Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini head of motorsport.
The new Lamborghini SC63 was presented to the public on July 13 at Goodwood, England.
