Motul and Caterham join forces again for Goodwood Festival of Speed
Motul returns to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in conjunction with Caterham, whose stand the global oil company will share. Motul supplies the UK sports car constructor as an OE partner with lubricants and other related fluids, as well as being the name sponsor of the Motul Caterham 310R Championship. At this Festival of Speed, Caterham will showcase both of its fully electric concept vehicles – Project V and EV Seven – as each make their public debut in what is Caterham’s 50th anniversary, and Motul’s 170 birthday year.
EV Seven is the brand’s technology development concept that trials cutting-edge battery electric technology in a modified Seven 485 chassis. EV Seven features a bespoke version of Swindon Powertrain’s E Axle, combined with an immersion-cooled battery pack. Immersion battery cooling uses a dielectric fluid, supplied by Motul. The fluid is in direct contact with the cells enabling better thermal management during charge and discharge cycles. This technology is at the forefront for battery electric vehicles and, until now, has typically been employed to cool supercomputers that generate enormous amounts of heat.
Project V is a fully-electric sports coupé concept that showcases an all-new design language created by Chief Designer Anthony Jannarelly. The show car has been built by world-renowned Italian engineering firm, Italdesign located in Turin.
In addition, Caterham will display cars from its current line-up, including the Super Seven 600. and the Seven 420 CUP on which Motul branding comes as standard!
Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham, said: “This year’s Festival of Speed will be hugely exciting for Caterham because it’s the first time that Project V and EV Seven will be seen by the general public.”
“After having combined successfully with Caterham at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, we are delighted to be with them again this year,” explains Motul’s UK and Ireland General Sales and Marketing Manager, Andy Wait. “As can be seen from Caterham’s concept EV presence, our partnership is not simply as a supplier, but also as a true technical partner and we are proud to be pushing the boundaries, not just of lubricants and fluids for ICE vehicles but also for Hybrid and fully Electric Vehicles as well.”
