Michelin expands car tyre production capacity at its Shenyang plant
Michelins plans to invest 200 million yuan (including 7.515 million yuan in environmental protection investment) to expand car tyre production capacity at its Shenyang, China factory by 1.3 million tyres. Tyrepress China learned that this project would expand the production capacity of passenger car tyres on the dismantled truck and bus tyre production line. In other words, the expansion plans won’t add workshop area. Rather, new production equipment will be installed in the original workshop to realise the increase.
As a result of changes in market demand, the Michelin Shenyang plant dismantled three truck and bus radial tyre production lines at the end of 2021, reducing the annual production capacity from 1.8 million to 1.1 million. After dismantling the truck and bus tyre vulcanisation line, the tyre maker plans to use the remaining capacity of the mixer line to increase the production of passenger car tyres.
The Michelin Shenyang plant will add new production facilities in the car tyre (passenger car radial – PCR) vulcanisation workshop to improve the overall production capacity of passenger car tyres. In addition to expanding a PCR vulcanisation line and its supporting production facilities, Michelin will also rebuild the existing wastewater station. After the overall expansion project is completed, the PCR capacity of the Michelin Shenyang plant will increase to 17.3 million tyres per year.
