Birla Carbon to share specialty carbon blacks innovation, sustainability opportunities
Global carbon black supplier Birla Carbon will discuss the optimisation of adhesives and their production processes to reduce carbon footprint at the Adhesives & Bonding Expo (20-22 June, 2023; Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan, USA). Dr Reuben Correia, manager of new product development in the Adhesives & Inks division, will examine the evolving market dynamics and the imperative for sustainable innovation in Specialty Carbon Blacks. He will address opportunities and challenges in product development and environmental sustainability.
Specialty Carbon Black products are extensively utilised as cost-effective additives for UV protection, reinforcement, rheology control, adhesion improvement, and conductivity in various industries such as adhesives, plastics, paints, inks, and energy systems. Birla Carbon’s products have gained recognition as high-performance black colour additives that deliver exceptional performance and sustainability benefits across various sectors.
One of the key highlights of Birla Carbon’s specialty carbon black products is their extensive use in conductive applications, including adhesives and sealants, coatings, and batteries. Highly conductive carbon blacks contribute significantly to these applications by ensuring optimum conductivity and performance. In comparison with other carbon additives like carbon nanotubes, carbon fibre, and graphene, carbon black stands out as the most cost-effective solution due to its uniquely engineered process technology and relative ease of dispersibility.
Speaking about the participation, John Davidson, chief sales and marketing officer, Birla Carbon, said, “We are thrilled to be part of the Adhesives & Bonding Expo, as it provides a useful platform to showcase our proficiency in specialty carbon black solutions and fostering valuable connections with industry peers. As the adhesives industry undergoes rapid transformation, the need for sustainable solutions that enhance both manufacturing processes and end-use products is on the rise. Our participation allows us to demonstrate our dedication to innovation and sustainability of specialty carbon blacks.”
