Airbus approves Goodyear aviation tyres for the new A321XLR
Airbus has approved Goodyear tyres for fitment on the new A321XLR. As a result of its system part certification, Goodyear’s Flight Radial will be among the tyres fitted when the aircraft enters service in 2024. Goodyear says the Flight Radial is one of its “most advanced” aviation products. It contains technologies that support the tyre’s dimensional stability for longer life and increased cut resistance. Its radial construction also offers more landings.
Introducing the product, Octavian Velcan, managing director OTR & Aviation EMEA, said: “Our main objective when designing this product was finding a balance between the required robustness and keeping the tyre as light as possible. We achieve this in close collaboration with Airbus and delivered an optimised bead design and aerospace-quality materials to meet operators’ business needs.”
The optimised bead design, designed with Featherweight Aluminum Core Bead, makes the tyre ultra-light, supporting weight reduction while ensuring the geometry, strength and durability of the tyre and bead. Goodyear’s Merged Cord Technology uses DuPont Kevlar wound with nylon to further enhance strength and reduce weight. This also reduces casing growth for enhanced resistance to foreign object damage and offers excellent wear resistance for long tread life. The manufacturer’s DiamondWeave Belt Technology also helps to optimise wear for a longer life. Goodyear said the tyre is another demonstration of how it “moves the world” in the year of its 125th anniversary.
