Jiangsu General’s Cambodia tyre plant officially starts production
On 22 May, General Tires Technology (Cambodia) held its opening ceremony, which means Jiangsu General’s second overseas production base has officially begun operation. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian attended the ceremony and cut the ribbon for the Jiangsu General Cambodia factory.
Gu Cui, chairman of Jiangsu General, said that Jiangsu General is one of China’s few tyre companies with two overseas production bases. He believes that the two overseas factories can quickly improve Jiangsu General’s competitiveness in the international market. In addition to the Cambodian factory, where the opening ceremony was held this time, Jiangsu General also has a production base in Thailand. The tyre manufacturer said, “The production and sales of the Thailand factory are booming. The high-quality products and management services have been widely recognised by many leading customers in the United States and Europe, and orders are in short supply”.
Statistics show that the designed production capacity of Jiangsu General’s Cambodia plant includes 5 million semi-steel radial tyres and 900,000 all-steel radial tyres. After the plant reaches total production capacity, it is expected to consume about 30,000 tons of natural rubber annually and add US$350 million in sales for Jiangsu General. At the same time, the tyre factory is expected to create 1,600 local jobs.
Jiangsu General is headquartered in Wuxi, Jiangsu, and is a subsidiary of Hodo Group. The total investment of its Cambodia factory is 1.906 billion yuan. At the end of February 2022, the Cambodian factory officially started construction. In March 2023, the plant rolled off the first tyre.
