Davanti adds run-flat sizes to Protoura Sport range
The need to meet stringent CO2 emission targets by whatever means possible has prompted many car makers to dispense with conventional spare wheels, a move that can leave drivers feeling more vulnerable, especially considering the increasingly potholed state of our roads. To ensure drivers can enjoy performance without stress as we enter the summer months, Davanti Tyres has expanded its ultra-high-performance Protoura Sport range to include run-flat sizes.
Introducing Protoura Sport Runflat, Davanti Tyres states that it designed the latest addition to the range to deliver high performance while offering the technological features and benefits of a run-on-flat tyre.
Key features include:
• A self-supporting internal sidewall to support the weight of the vehicle and retain tyre structure when losing air as a result of a puncture, allowing motorists to safely travel home or to a nearby garage/place of repair.
• Lateral and transverse load support when operating at zero inflation pressure.
• Continued and safe operation at speeds of up to 50mph whilst deflating or deflated.
• Integrated rim protection to prevent wheel damage.
In order to create a tyre with these technical features, Davanti says it has “gone above and beyond the standard requirements for run-flat testing” to ensure optimal performance.
In addition to the standard drum test, this includes:
• Pop-on pressure, ensuring that the tyres are easy to fit without requiring excessive pressure to mount the rim, and that they can also be dismounted without much difficulty, a typical challenge with run-flat tyres.
• RPA test, ensuring the variation of the tyre circumference is accurate and effective at working in line with the TPMS sensors.
• Rim roll-off test, ensuring that the deflated tyre stays mounted to the rim when undergoing lateral forces, a factor that cannot be determined by the standard drum test alone. This test was carried out by performing J turns with a tyre under zero pressure to ensure it remains mounted to the rim as required for OE standards.
Leading benchmark
“Expanding the Protoura Sport range to include run-flat technology means drivers can enjoy our ultra-high-performance tyres with the peace of mind that should they suffer a puncture, they have time to get to a garage or find a safe, level area to change the tyre,” comments Peter Cross, general manager of Davanti Tyres. “Also, thanks to the team’s incredible work to engineer a UHP tread pattern alongside run-flat technology which has been developed to a premium standard, we have a tyre which is a leading benchmark for run-flats offering performance you can trust.”
