Sentury Tire Spain factory still set to start construction in 2023
While Sentury recently confirmed it is investing in a factory across the Mediterranean in Morocco, on 27 March 2023 officials once again confirmed that the Spain factory is set to begin construction this year. In addition, at the same time, executives agreed to prioritise the employment of ex-Endesa workers when the local power station closes. Indeed, the mayor of Las Pontes, Valentín González Formoso, and Qin Long, president of Sentury Tire, signed an agreement to that effect.
The local mayor underlined the ongoing importance of the agreement for the town, thanking the president of the company “for his sensitivity and commitment to the workers, of the municipality and the region, affected by the closure of the coal plant”.
“This is great news for a town used to receiving large industrial projects that will make As Pontes become an industrial engine. We will have the first tyre factory in Galicia and one of the few in Spain which, together with the Ence bioplant project and the green hydrogen plant in Reganosa and EDP Renovables, will enable the reactivation of the port of Ferrol and make As Pontes a strategic industrial enclave for Galicia”.
During the meeting, Qin Long, said that the beginning of the works on the plant is planned for the month of September and the mayor reiterated the commitment and the “total willingness” of the Das Pontes Municipality to facilitate the establishment of the company in the town, lending its collaboration in “actions aimed at the qualification of the staff” and “giving priority to the processing of all authorizations and permits that are necessary to reduce the times as much as possible.”
