Nexen presents 52% sustainable tyre
Nexen Tire has unveiled a sustainable concept tyre containing 52 per cent renewable and recycled raw materials. This Nexen EcoTech tyre, which according to its sidewall is “for the greenish future,” consists of 44 per cent renewable materials, including natural rubber, bio-based synthetic rubber, rice husk silica and bio-based rubber chemicals. A further eight per cent is recycled content, including cord made from recycled PET bottles and bead wire sourced from scrap metal using an electric arc furnace.
“This research demonstrates our commitment to becoming one of the most forward-thinking tyre companies in terms of ESG,” comments Nexen Tire. The tyre maker says it plans to continue its research to develop eco-friendly tyres by discovering various bio-resources and recyclable raw materials and increasing the usage ratio.
