JK Tyre develops 80% sustainable tyre
It’s only a couple of weeks since Apollo Tyres announced it has produced and is now evaluating passenger car tyres containing 75 per cent sustainable materials. JK Tyre & Industries has seen Apollo’s 75 and raised it five, unveiling a passenger car radial with 80 per cent recycled and renewable materials.
Presenting the UX Green, JK Tyre says this 80 per cent sustainable materials tyre will “deliver performance comparable to that of a standard radial tyre while registering a lower carbon footprint.” The Indian manufacturer has “extensively tested” UX Green in indoor facilities as well as on roads and test tracks to validate the performance.
Ingredients counting towards the 80 per cent sustainable materials within UX Green include natural rubber, bio-attributed SBR and BR, bio-based oil, recycled rubber powder, recovered carbon black, recycled polyester and steel wire. JK Tyre reports that the majority of these materials are ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) certified.
The tyre maker shares that the “talented team at JK Tyre” designed and developed UX Green based upon “decade-long research” conducted at the company’s Global Tech Centre. The R&D team has been working to create solutions that will enable JK Tyre to replace conventional petroleum-based materials with sustainable materials.
Reinforces commitment to sustainable growth
“Offering a product that is so closely connected with our overall sustainability goals is something we at JK Tyre are very proud of,” comments Dr Raghupati Singhania, chairman and managing director of JK Tyre. “With a strong emphasis on creating substitutes to conserve the ecosystem, the tyre has been fully designed & developed using 80 per cent sustainable materials. This development is not only a reflection of our highly skilled R&D team, but it also reinforces our serious commitment to advancing sustainable growth and boosting societal value creation, moving towards carbon neutrality by 2050.
“The range of such tyres will be offered in due course,” Singhania adds.
