China: Synthetic rubber partnership for tyre applications
The research institute behind the EcoPoint3 compounding technology that Sailun Group presented during last year’s The Tire Cologne has established strategic partnerships with two companies to explore synthetic rubber applications for use in tyre production. EVE Rubber Institute, a research and development organisation founded in 2011 by Sailun parent company Mesnac through its National Rubber and Tire Engineering Technology Research Center, signed agreements with Mesnac affiliate Ecombine Advanced Materials and synthetic rubber manufacturer Arlanxeo High Performance Elastomer (Changzhou) – also known as Arlanxeo China. The signing ceremony took place in Shanghai on 10 March.
The three protagonists will draw upon their respective technological and marketing strengths to deliver innovations in liquid-phase mixing as well as develop downstream applications for this and market a range of rubber products, including BIIR, SSBR, EPDM and CR. The cooperation also facilitates on-site exchanges for further collaboration between Ecombine and Arlanxeo China with the aim of broadening the application of liquid-phase mixing technology and enhancing quality and sustainability within the tyre and rubber industries.
EVE Rubber Institute utilised liquid-phase mixing technology to produce EVEC (EVE Composite), which is hailed as a product that can break the ‘magic triangle’ of tyre performance by simultaneously improving rolling resistance, wet braking and wear characteristics. Tyre technology incorporating EVEC materials debuted as EcoPoint3 in December 2021.
