Apollo: 75% sustainable car tyre
Following on from its development of agricultural tyres with 75 per cent sustainable materials, Apollo Tyres has now achieved the same goal with passenger vehicle tyres. These tyres – an Apollo Amperion high-performance tyre for electric vehicles and an Apollo Aspire 4G+ ultra-high performance car tyre – are not commercially available at present.
These newly developed, 75 per cent sustainable material passenger car tyres are made from recycled materials and bio-based products, including sustainable, traceable natural rubber. Apollo Tyres manufactured the tyres at its Andhra Pradesh plant in southeast India, the company’s newest and most modern manufacturing facility.
Speaking about the development of these passenger vehicle tyres, P K Mohamed, Apollo Tyres’ chief advisor, R&D, says: “We are confident about the performance of these tyres developed using 75 per cent sustainable materials, and have cleared regulatory performance requirements. These tyres will now undergo extensive road evaluation under typical operating conditions. This development is aligned with the sustainability journey of Apollo Tyres and the goal of achieving the 40 per cent sustainable material target by 2030, and of being carbon neutral by 2050. Our team continues to showcase innovation and commitment to building a sustainable future.”
