Sentury buys land for Morocco tyre factory project
On 3 March, Sentury purchased 20 hectares of land for the company’s Morocco tyre factory project. Lin Wenlong, general manager of the tyre manufacturer, formally signed a land purchase agreement with the company in charge of the Tangier Tech City project. According to various reports, Sentury will use this piece of land located in Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City to build a factory in Morocco. The project is scheduled to start construction in July 2023 ahead of an 18-month construction period.
On 31 December 2022, Sentury announced that it plans to invest approximately US$300 million in Morocco to build a project with an annual output of 6 million car and light truck tyres. The Morocco factory will be Sentury’s third overseas tyre factory and the first tyre manufacturing base built by a Chinese tyre company in Africa.
The Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City, where the Sentury factory will be located, is essential to the China-Morocco “Belt and Road” cooperation. According to information on a Moroccan government website, the project focuses on creating a sustainable, integrated, and intelligent industrial city. The Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City will include a 947-hectare industrial acceleration zone, where major manufacturing plants are located, and a 1,220-hectare smart city, which provides for residential, leisure, and tourism developments.
