Pirelli keen to extend F1 tyre supply
On 20 March the FIA published an invitation to participate in the next tender process for tyre supply to the Formula One World Championship, Formula 2 and Formula 3 from 2025 to 2027, with an option for 2028. Confirming its interest in participating in the tyre tender process, Pirelli observes that the tender document “outlines technical characteristics that are broadly in line” with the Pirelli-supplied tyres currently used in these championships.
Noting the relevance of these characteristics to technology transfer from track to road and a particular emphasis on sustainability, the tyre maker comments that “the framework described by the FIA is closely aligned to Pirelli’s motorsport strategy and so is of great interest, with the Italian company having been global tyre partner to the sport for more than a decade.”
Pirelli says it will make a “definitive decision” about its participation in the selection process after a detailed examination of the FIA’s document. Hankook Tire, which submitted a tyre supply tender bid in 2018, has yet to express interest in doing so this time. From 2023, the Korean tyre maker is tyre supplier and technology partner to the single-seater FIA Formula E World Championship.
