Giti Tire extends British Truck Racing Championship tyre supply, sponsorship deals
The British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) will run exclusively on Giti Race-Tuned v1 global competition truck tyres in size 315/70R22.5 for a second season in 2023, beginning on 8 April at Brands Hatch. Competitors will decide the series over seven race weekends at some of the UK’s leading circuits, Pembrey, Thruxton, Donington, Snetterton, and coming full-circle to end the season, presumably with the hope of some on-track fireworks, on 5 November. Giti will augment its BTRC official tyre partnership status with the sponsorship of the two fully-liveried Team Oliver racing trucks, piloted by the father and son duo, Stuart and Michael Oliver.
In 2022, Stuart Oliver’s Team Oliver racing truck managed 19 podium finishes across the seven, five-race meetings, leading to third place in the overall standings with 368 points, just one behind David Jenkins, but 67 behind the overwhelming champion, Ryan Smith. The team achieved this despite a crash at Donington in August that necessitated a major rebuild to return to the start line just three weeks later.
Giti uses the series as a platform for its commercial vehicle tyre brand visibility in the UK. Tony McHugh, TBR sales and marketing director UK at Giti Tire, calls the series “a massive boost for the Giti brand,” hailing its “excellent marketing and social media opportunities.” The teams that compete in the championship also work day-to-day in the transport sector, and McHugh adds that the experience of the brand on track helps to increase their interest in the wider Giti truck and bus portfolio. The Giti Race-Tuned v1 global competition truck tyres themselves are available to purchase via Truck Sport UK.
Giti Tire’s UK branch will also support the brand on the national stage at Road Transport Expo (RTX), which will take place at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire on 28-30 June.
