Giti relocates Hefei tyre factory
On 6 March, the authorities of Hefei City, Anhui Province, released reported that they they had reached a consensus with Giti headquarters on relocating the Hefei factory. The chairman of Giti Tire will go to Hefei soon to inspect the address of the new factory.
Hefei municipal government’s statement means the relocation of Giti Tire’s Hefei factory may have entered a substantive stage. Giti Tire’s current manufacturing base is in the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Area. The promotional information of the tyre factory on 30 January 2023, shows that it is “the largest and most powerful production base of Giti Group in China…with more than 5,000 employees”. In addition, the factory also stated that “it will build an industry-leading intelligent factory in Hefei within five years”.
As early as 2019, the local authorities indicated they would relocate the Giti Hefei factory. In December 2020, the Hefei Municipal Government and Giti Tire signed a framework agreement on the relocation. According to the agreement, the Giti factory was expected to start relocation after all production was shut down at the end of 2026.
The disclosed information shows that Giti’s new factory may be located in Xiatang Industrial Park, Shuangfeng Economic Development Area, Changfeng County, Hefei City. The investment of the whole project will exceed 7 billion yuan. After the project is produced, the annual output includes 20 million semi-steel radial tyres and 2.6 million all-steel radial tyres.
Headquartered in Singapore, Giti Tire has five tyre manufacturing bases worldwide. Among them, three factories are located in China, one in Indonesia, and one in the United States.
