First tyre rolls off Jiangsu General Cambodian factory production line
On 18 March Jiangsu General’s Cambodian factory produced its first tyre, which means the tyre maker’s second overseas factory is now ramping up its production capacity. Jiangsu General said that the products of the Cambodian plant are mainly produced under the Celimo brand and are sold in the United States, Europe and Brazil.
According to the company, the Cambodian factory has signed strategic cooperation agreements with customers in the United States and Europe. Jiangsu General plans that the second overseas factory will begin to deliver products to customers in April and achieve 50 per cent of its production capacity by the end of 2023.
The total investment of the Jiangsu General Cambodia project is 1.906 billion yuan, and its designed production capacity is 5 million semi-steel radial tyres and 900,000 all-steel radial tyres. At the end of February 2022, the Cambodian factory officially started construction. And just one year later, this production base already has some level of production capacity.
Tyrepress China learned that the United States has not set up trade barriers for tyres produced in Cambodia, which means that Cambodian tyre products do not need to pay high anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tariffs when they enter the US market.
Sailun is another Chinese tyre manufacturer with a Cambodia factory besides Jiangsu General. In November 2021, Sailun held a commissioning ceremony for the Cambodian factory. In addition, Doublestar plans to build a factory in Cambodia through a joint venture.
