New Ram 1200 tested on Nokian Tyres
America’s Ram 1200 was recently caught undergoing winter testing in Northern Sweden by CarBuzz spy photographers. The website pointed out that the latest edition of the pickup, which is slated for a 2024 introduction, was caught testing with other Stellantis brand vehicles, such as the Fiat Toro. However, the eagle-eyed will have noted that it was shod with Nokian Tyres.
It is not immediately visible which tyres are on the vehicle, but the size 235/60 R18 – not uncommon for pickup trucks and SUVs – is visible on the sidewall. A quick look at WhatTyre’s extensive database of over 300,000 tyre reveals it is likely to be a product like the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV studless or the Hakkapeliitta 10 SUV studded tyre, both of which are designed specifically for driving such an SUV in winter conditions.
The fact that the new Ram is clearly being tested on Nokian tyres does not mean that Nokian has secured an OE tyre supply contract for the latest Ram model. And the fact that testing was taking place in northern Sweden, a location that brings with it literally arctic conditions, it could be that the tyres were fitted as a studded tyre option. Nevertheless, the fact that Nokian tyres were fitted is a vote of confidence in the Finnish tyremaker and its products.
