New forklift tyre: Galaxy MFS 101 SDS

A new solid forklift tyre has entered the Galaxy range, and manufacturer Yokohama Off-Highway Tires (YOHT) says it developed this product “for the most demanding industrial and warehousing operations,” specifically the “modern needs of indoor and outdoor operations.” The Galaxy MFS 101 SDS thus is, YOHT adds, an “ideal choice for electric and diesel forklifts where high driving comfort and long service life are expected.”

Thanks to “three-stage construction” – more about this in a moment – as well as a “contemporary and innovative design,” YOHT reports Galaxy MFS 101 SDS experiences minimal vibrations and heat build-up, and offers better cushioning, steering ability and stability. “This ensures smooth operations on different types of industrial, paved and asphalt surfaces,” comments the tyre maker. It adds that service lifetime is extended by the presence of “more wearable rubber in terms of higher tread depth and 60J values.” The tyre comes with a five-year warranty.

Three layers & low vibration pattern

Developed with “intensive three-shift operations” in mind, YOHT describes Galaxy MFS101 SDS as a premium three-stage product whose tread compound offers “excellent wear and cut-chip resistance properties. These three stages consist of a top layer that provides the tyre with “an optimum lifespan,” a soft centre cushion layer that assists in minimising vibrations and thus provides “comfort for the operator,” and a base compound layer which ”ensures maximum stability and allows for an efficient load transfer to the rims of the forklift.” In addition, anti-slip steel beads “ensure better rim fitment, eliminating wheel slip.”

The tread pattern consists of a continuous centre and lugs at the shoulders, and YOHT says this combination delivers “low vibrations and high driving comfort” for operators engaging in long working hours. The manufacturer adds that the circumferential grooves provide improved steering ability whilst the longer grooves ensure better traction.

YOHT continues: “The wide flat profile of the Galaxy MFS 101 SDS along with uniform internal layers lead to good load distribution and even wear thus ensuring high machine stability during critical lifting and cornering operations.”

Quick & standard heel fitment

The Galaxy MFS 101 SDS includes both Quick Heel/Lip type (QH) and Standard Heel (SH) type fitments, with various rim combinations covering almost every need. Whilst 31 SKUs in 18 sizes of this new tyre are already available in QH and/or SH versions, YOHT is currently developing another 11 sizes and expects to release these by the third quarter of 2023.
