GS Yuasa International and Honda to develop lithium-ion batteries
GS Yuasa International Ltd., the parent company of GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd., has announced the signing of an agreement with Honda Motor Co. Ltd. to develop high-capacity, high-output lithium-ion batteries.
The two Japanese heavyweights are to begin discussions with the aim of establishing a joint venture to meet the rapidly expanding demand for lithium-ion batteries by the end of 2023.
Through joint R&D, both GS Yuasa and Honda have ambitions to produce batteries that are highly competitive in not only the global market but also their manufacturing methods. They also intend to build a supply chain and an efficient production system for key raw materials.
Osamu Murao, President and Representative Director of GS Yuasa International Ltd., said: “Through this new collaboration with Honda, we aim to contribute to the further spread of electrified vehicles, deliver comfort and peace of mind to customers around the world, and create new value to achieve carbon neutrality.”
