Continental confirms global Smart #1 tyre supply
The new, full-electric Smart #1 is the first Smart model developed by the joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Chinese carmaker Geely. Launch photos released by Smart Europe last year let the Continental cat out of the tyre supply bag, and Continental has now confirmed worldwide supply for the SUV in 18- and 19-inch tyre sizes.
All three UK-spec models – Smart #1 Pro+, Premium and Brabus – come with 19-inch rims as standard, and Continental offers its EcoContact 6 Q in size 235/45 R19 99V XL. Smart Automobile has also approved the Continental EcoContact 6 Q as an original equipment tyre for the Smart #1 in size 235/50 R18 101V XL.
Sharing news of its role as Smart #1 tyre supplier, Continental says it designed the EcoContact 6 Q for exceptionally energy-saving and quiet driving. The tyre’s rubber compound minimises energy absorption while the vehicle is in motion, reducing friction and rolling resistance. Continental’s developers also improved the tyre tread to further reduce rolling noise.
Continental adds that the EcoContact 6 Q is also characterised by an exceptionally long service life, outstanding braking performance and superior handling – all thanks to its specially modified blocks, sipes and side grooves. “In addition to short braking distances, the premium tyre offers exceptional grip on dry and wet roads and excellent cornering stability even at high speeds,” writes the manufacturer.
