ContiCasingAccount kicks off
Continental has designed a new service for European truck tyre dealers – the ContiCasingAccount. In short, the system enables dealers to deposit used casings into an account and receive a credit for them. According to the company, the new service has already been successfully tested by 28 dealers in Germany. The program will be now rolled out to all interested European tyre dealers. However, Tyres & Accessories understands that the service won’t operate in the UK where a different system is in place.
Once a tyre dealer has submitted a casing to the ContiCasingAccount and received a credit to the account, they flexibly call up the credit in the form of retreaded tyres within one year – depending on the needs of their customers. They also benefit from an attractive replacement price for the retreaded tyre.
The ContiCasingAccount is integrated in ContiOnlineCont@ct. In the web-based platform, tyre dealers can oversee the entire process – from collection to evaluation. According to the company, ContiCasingAccount users benefited from a preferred delivery directly from the ContiLifeCycle plant in Hanover-Stöcken.
Continental reports that the ContiCasingAccount “lowers fleet costs, optimizes tyre life and reduces emissions.” Or, in other words, it brings significant added value to everyone involved: “By using our retreading solutions with well-maintained Continental carcasses, we can reduce tyre costs by 30 to 40 per cent “, explained Annika Lorenz, Head of Fleet Solutions Germany at Continental. “A re-treaded tyre saves 70 per cent of the materials needed to make a new tyre, which significantly relieves the burden on the environment. In addition to saving raw materials, retreading helps to reduce CO2 emissions, water and energy consumption.”
While the live service is news, Continental first mentioned that the management of casings with its ContiLifeCycle process in April 2022.
