Toyota Prius PHEV to run on Yokohama BluEarth tyres
While the fifth-generation Toyota Prius will not be sold in Europe, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) edition will be launched in the market in spring 2023, rolling on Yokohama’s BluEarth-GT AE51 and BluEarth-FE AE30 tyres, like the conventional version. The news continues a long-term supply arrangement between the Japanese firms for the Prius range.
The BluEarth-GT AE51 is designed as a grand touring tyre, with high steering stability and a newly developed compound to combine reduced rolling resistance and wet performance. It is also tuned to promote comfort.
The BluEarth-FE AE30 is geared towards improving fuel efficiency, as well as quietness, high comfort, and long life. For the new BluEarth-FE AE30, a new profile and compound have been developed to combine reduced rolling resistance and wet performance.
The heart of Yokohama’s BluEarth concept is to be “environmentally, human, and socially friendly”. The company says it is aggressively developing tyres with BluEarth technology, with varied OEM fitments encompassing internal combustion engine vehicles, hybrids and electric vehicles in sedan, SUV, sports car, and compact car segments.
