Pirelli supplying ADAC-powered DTM
Not only does the DTM touring car championship have a new home as part of Europe’s largest motoring association, the ADAC, changes are also afoot in the tyre department. Pirelli, who has long equipped another ADAC-backed series, is taking over from Michelin as exclusive DTM tyre supplier in 2023.
“We will bring a new tyre partner to the start, namely our ADAC GT Masters partner Pirelli, who also equips Formula One,” confirmed Thomas Voss, ADAC motorsport director, during a press conference.
With only minor changes announced for 2023, the Pirelli-shod DTM becomes the ADAC’s flagship motorsport product. GT Masters and the Prototype Cup Germany will sit below it and likely be rebranded as DTM Endurance.
DTM in the right hands
Announcing DTM’s entry into the ADAC fold, Gerhard Berger, who in 2020 assumed sole financial responsibility for the DTM platform and continued the racing series during the pandemic, stated: “Now, the time has come to create the basis for DTM’s long-term future. Thus, I have decided to transfer the brand to ADAC.
“I am firmly convinced that the brand is in the right hands with ADAC,” Berger continued. “The necessary know-how is available there in order to offer all motorsport fans a unique experience in the future. Due to the long-term experience, the established structures and the association’s own commitment to motorsport, ADAC is not only able to create the best possible synergies but also consistently develop the DTM further.”
ITR GmbH, which was previously responsible for DTM’s international marketing and organisation, will no longer promote the series.
