Penny Hydraulics wins Royal Warrant and ‘warm feelings’ in the hearts of politicians
Derbyshire-based Penny Hydraulics, which makes industrial tyre presses and wheel lifts for the tyre industry, received a Royal Warrant of Appointment in the middle of 2022, as a regular supplier of chandelier and baggage lifting systems to The Royal Households. More recently, local and national MPs have celebrated the company’s achievements.
Speaking in Parliament on 24 November, Mark Fletcher, the Conservative member of Parliament (MP) for Bolsover said: “Last week I had the pleasure of joining celebrations at Penny Hydraulics Ltd, which has just received a royal warrant. This is a specialist engineering company that I am proud to say is based in Clowne in my constituency, although it started as a small family business in nearby Eckington. Will my right honourable friend find time for a debate to celebrate the importance of small, local and family businesses and the successful role they play in our fantastic economy?”
In answer to that question, evoked “warm feelings” in the heart of Conservative leader of the house of Commons, Penny Mordaunt MP replied: “My honourable friend has asked a very timely question, as this week is Family Business Week. I have warm feelings towards Penny Hydraulics. It sounds like a great firm. There are currently 5 million family-owned businesses in the UK. They enable 4 million people to have a pay cheque and contribute about £575 billion to the UK economy. I am also pleased to say that the number of small businesses in the UK is up by 1 million since 2010.”
Speaking at the time the company received their Royal Warrant, Robin Penny, managing director, Penny Hydraulics Group commented: “To be recognised in this way by The Royal Household is a great honour and is an achievement that everyone at Penny Hydraulics can be proud of as everyone has played their part. It is a clear demonstration of our commitment not just to quality but also to the principles of social, environmental, and economic sustainability. These are principles that will be ever more important in future”.
To become a Royal Warrant Holder, companies must be a regular supplier of goods or services to HM The King, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, HRH The Prince of Wales, or their Households, for at least five years. Grantees must also prove they meet strict sustainability criteria.
