Continental voluntarily recalls 7,103 tyres
Continental has announced a voluntary replacement programme for a total of 7,103 tyres worldwide. According to a statement detailing the news published on 7 December 2022, the exchange programme is being offered in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, France and Italy. In the German market, for example, a total of 745 tyres that were sold through the tyre replacement business or are still in the stocks of tyre dealers are eligible for exchange. A Continental Tyre Group spokesperson confirmed that the UK market is not affected by the voluntary exchange programme.
The tyres in question are Continental EcoContact 6 MO tyres in 205/55 R17 91W, with DOT number: AF E D8JD 0422 and tyre mould number: 255448. The MO marking denotes that the tyres are homologated for use on Mercedes vehicles.
While no related accidents or injuries have been reported, Continental explained that the affected tyres could experience “sudden air deflation or belt edge separation, resulting in partial or total tread loss”. All tyres eligible for the exchange program will be replaced free of charge.
Continental started informing the relevant national authorities on 5 December 2022 and is in close contact with its customers and dealers to organize and implement this voluntary exchange programme.
