Omni United Radar EV tyre strategy
Omni United is moving towards a more sustainable future via sustainable driving and carbon neutral manufacturing which it began in 2013 with its Radar Tyre brand. Now, the company is introducing a two-pronged electric vehicle (EV) tyre strategy. The first phase will see the development of EV-compatible tyre ranges while the second phase will result in a dedicated speciality EV tyre line-up.
Phase 1 tyres are being engineered to offer lower rolling resistance for improved vehicle range, wear resistant compounds to reduce the wear from the high EV torque and increased safety through improved wet braking and improved handling characteristics. These will be based on Radar Tyres’s existing platforms, which include the premium all-season range for North America and the high-performance Dimax R8+ and RPX 800-E ranges for Europe and Asia. All ranges are currently undergoing testing and expected to launch in the target markets simultaneously in the first quarter of 2023.
Phase 2 will see the company launch a “range of premium electric vehicle fitments” under its flagship Radar Tyres brand. These will be designed in collaboration with the renowned Italian automotive design house GFG Style and will be the second range to be designed as part of this collaboration. This speciality range will cater to all the key EV requirements such as offer reduced rolling resistance which directly impacts the range of the vehicle, higher load carrying capabilities to accommodate the additional weights of the battery packs, use of an improved compound to cope with the wear generated from the high vehicle torque and have reduced noise levels for added comfort. According to the company, the range will feature a summer pattern and initially be launched for the European market in 16 sizes ranging from 18 to 21-inch diameter wheels. That line-up will hit the market “throughout 2023”.
“Omni United has always taken a unique and forward-thinking approach to sustainability with our Radar brand being the first tyre brand to be manufactured carbon neutral since 2013,” said GS Sareen, president and CEO, Omni United, adding:
“As the automotive industry is making strides to shift towards a more sustainable future we want to continue investing in a cause that we have believed in since more than a decade back. We want our dealers and consumers to have access not only to sustainable mobility solutions but also stress on the importance of a product that meets the growing electric vehicle market needs while leveraging cutting-edge style and design.”
