Estonia mandates 3PMSF on winter tyres from December
Effective 1 December 2022, vehicles in Estonia will be required to use winter tyres marked with Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol, indicating that they are accredited for winter grip performance.
According to the local Transport Administration, the change is based on a regulation signed by the minister of economic affairs and infrastructure in 2019.
The change upgrades Estonian winter tyre classification from the old M+S marking to 3PMSF on the basis that 3PMSF-equipped tyres are “better suited to wintry conditions”. Vehicles that use all-terrain tyres marked with the POR (Professional Off-Road) symbol are exempt from the new rule
Specifically, 3PMSF tyres will be required for use on passenger cars, minivans, 0.75-3.5 tons trailers as well as vehicles in the local classifications L6e and L7e.
