Bridgestone bespoke EV-tyres on BMW iX
Bridgestone reports that it has applied its electric mobility expertise to the development of bespoke tyres for the BMW iX, the company’s first all-electric vehicle since its pioneering BMW i3. According to the tyremaker, the ultra-low rolling resistance Bridgestone Alenza tyres feature a host of cutting-edge technologies.
The custom-engineered tyres feature Bridgestone’s proprietary Enliten technology to reduce tyre rolling resistance and weight by up to 20 per cent (based on internal data comparing Bridgestone premium summer tyres with and without Enliten Technology in 92Y 225/40R18 XL. The result is said to be minimal weight and “increased vehicle mileage”.
The BMW iX’s EV-marked Alenza tyres also feature a specially-developed material compound and tread pattern, complementing the BMW iX’s four-wheel drive transmission and eDrive Technology to “deliver outstanding performance, extraordinary range and impressive acceleration”.
In April, both Goodyear and Pirelli announced that they were also supplying OE for the BMW iX.
