Driver assistance systems: Continental postpones construction of centralised facility
In March, Continental announced the upcoming start of work on a new, centralised facility for its driver assistance systems and automated driving businesses. Construction work was to commence at the site in Neu-Ulm, Germany in December 2022 and be completed in 2024. The company has now postponed the groundbreaking ceremony and won’t decide upon a new date for this until next year.
According to German radio station SWR4, concerns about rising inflation and energy prices motivated Continental to delay the start of work on the Neu-Ulm facility. Continental representatives nevertheless stressed to SWR4 that the new centre will “definitely come,” even if later than originally anticipated.
According to Continental, the company will invest approximately 50 million euros in the 15,500 square metre centre in Neu-Ulm. When complete, it will offer space for 700 and bring together employees who currently work at three sites in Ulm and Neu-Ulm.
The company also broke ground on a development campus in nearby Memmingen on 30 March. This facility is scheduled to be completed mid-2023 and will house some 150 employees.
