Rest in peace, Your Majesty
On 8 September, we were all shocked to learn that Queen Elizabeth II died. September’s magazine was already at the printer, but we wanted to honour her majesty’s life by changing our front cover to a more respectful hue as well as altering our leading article column. Here’s our immediate reaction to the sad news:
During her unprecedented 70-year reign she saw 15 prime ministers come and go as well as numerous heads of state. But she always maintained her connection with the people.
As Barack Obama, along with many others have noted in their tributes, during World War II, Elizabeth became the first-ever female royal to serve on active military duty. More than that, she trained as a vehicle mechanic and – yes – changed tyres, something that gives her a particularly special place in the heart of this industry.
Rest in peace, your majesty. Long live the King.
