Escalating energy costs: Synthos cuts ESBR production
Chemical firm and synthetic rubber manufacturer Synthos has announced that due to strongly rising energy prices in Europe, it can no longer operate its Emulsion-SBR (ESBR) production at full capacity. As a “direct result of the geopolitical situation and the Russian invasion” and resulting “unsustainable and unpredictable utility costs,” the company is reducing ESBR production by approximately 30 per cent, equivalent to around 100,000 tonnes per annum. This reduction is effective immediately.
Synthos says ESBR production will remain at a lower level until further notice, while production of Solution-SBR and Butadiene Rubber production will continue to run as planned.
