CL Tyres: 10-fold growth in first three years of industrial tyre business
Founded in July 2019 by Steve Donnithorne, CL Tyres Ltd is a relative newcomer in the industrial tyre business. However, in this case, that youth belies the experience behind the business, something that another of the company’s director’s, Steve Pye, explained to Tyres & Accessories during the recent IMHX exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham at the start of September 2022.
You could be forgiven for thinking that founding a company six months before a global pandemic might not be the best timing. For its part, CL Tyres is expanding rapidly. Official documents show that the business’s first year trading resulted in turnover of around £120,000. A year later it had more than doubled. Sales now equate to roughly £1.2 million a year.
10-fold growth is good in anyone’s book, but there is no sign of expansion slowing, with Steve Pye explained that the company is set to open distribution centres across the countries, bringing the total the businesses over to seven and underlining its offer of national coverage.
Based in Tipton, West Midlands, CL Tyres already runs centres in Hull and Washington, but there are plans for further depots in locations including the Manchester, Peterborough/Cambridge and Bristol areas.
As a result of this growth, the CL Tyres team is expanding with a number of strategic appointments in recent months and the company advertising for experienced fitters to join the business.
Strategically, the company aims carve its niche in the market based on providing “first class service and product to the industrial tyre sector across the UK, with key location depots and vastly experienced staff.” CL Tyres services specifically include: regular site fleet inspections, solid and pneumatic tyre supply and fitting; as well as puncture resistance fill and polyurethane wheels. These services are provided via mobile fitting staff that are equipped with technology including a 20-inch on-site industrial tyre press.
Product-wise, something Tyres & Accessories noticed on the CL Tyres’s IMHX stand was the prevalence of the Atire-produced Achiever brand of industrial products.
