Cheng Shin Factory punished for exhaust emissions
On 7 September, an administrative penalty decision issued by Xiamen’s environmental protection department showed that Cheng Shin Tire (Xiamen) Co., Ltd was fined 23,857 yuan for an exhaust gas problem.
On 1 June 2022, Xiamen’s environmental protection department conducted an on-site inspection of Cheng Shin Tire (Xiamen). At the time, the tyre manufacturing base was in production and pollution prevention facilities were operating. However, one of the windows on the south side of a vulcanisation workshop was not closed, resulting in a small amount of production waste from the workshop being discharged into the outside environment through this open window. Ultimately, the Xiamen Haicang Ecological Environment Bureau decided to fine Cheng Shin Tire (Xiamen).
The main products made at Cheng Shin Tire (Xiamen) are truck and bus tyres and its revenue in the first half of 2022 was NT$3.09 billion (about £86.21 million; 98.39 million euros). According to official data, 85.9 per cent of the products in this factory are destined for domestic sales. And 99.9 per cent of the products are sold through distributors. In the first and the second quarters, Cheng Shin Tire (Xiamen)’s revenue accounted for 6.6 per cent and 6 per cent of the total income of Zhengxin Rubber’s 11 tyre plants.
